What SWFL Is Talking About March 15th
Some students walked out of class at the designated time of 10am, even more participated in observances organized by the schools themselves. In any case students here in Southwest Florida and around the country took time yesterday to honor and memorialize the 17 people killed by Parkland High School shooter Nikolas Cruz. At all these demonstrations and observances the message was the same, they want lawmakers to enact measures to protect students from future gun violence.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Punta Gorda Police had their hands full earlier this week, when someone brought two grenades into a local store. The person brought the live grenades to High Power Outfitters on US 41, after finding them while cleaning out a nearby home. They were turned over to the bomb squad.
And there’s an assault rifle on the streets of Southwest Florida after police say a Cape Coral home was burglarized and an AR-15 stolen . The theft happened Monday at a home in the Southeast part of the city. Nothing besides the AR-15 was taken.
Senator Marco Rubio is pushing to make Daylight Savings Time permanent nationwide. He’s proposed the Sunshine Protection Act. The Florida Legislature voted earlier this week to adopt a similar bill. That bill is waiting for the Governor’s signature. Rubio claims a switch to a permanent Dalight Savings time would result in positive benefits for agriculture, health and a decrease in traffic accidents.
