Our 2 US Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio have asked for additional funding from the Centers for Disease Control to help battle algae blooms across the state. One million dollars would become available if the CDC approves the request. The funds would be used for documenting and tracking illnesses caused by the algae, public health education and building CDC programs for reporting algae blooms.
The Lee County School District and Lee County Branch of the NAACP have signed an agreement to settle a civil rights campaign the NAACP filed last year. The agreement calls on the district to continue six current practices including using alternatives to suspension and providing training about structural racism, implicit bias and disparities.
A North Fort Myers couple got a bit of a surprise when a man barged into their home Sunday night and attacked them. Police had stopped 33 year old Raymond White while he was riding his bicycle along McDaniel Drive…He took off and ran into a nearby home where the attack took place. He was later apprehended in the home. He’s been charged with 2 counts of burglary and resisting an officer.
Good news for travelers Allegiant Airlines is adding nonstop services to Southwest Florida from four new cities, which include Albany and Syracuse, N.Y., Omaha, Nebraska and Appleton Wisconsin. The Albany route will be year round,while the Syracuse, Omaha and Nebraska routes will be seasonal and begin in November.
A man living in the U.S. illegally has been charged with the death of Mollie Tibbets the Iowa college student who went missing last month while jogging.. The man charged has been identified as 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera. Mollie’s body was found in a farm field under corn stalks
