Police are investigating a dead body found in a canal near Prineville Street and Veterans Boulevard near US 41 in Port Charlotte. Investigators say the body appears to be a middle aged white male. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The Governor’s office has announced that the Department of Environmental Protection is providing 3 million dollars in additional funding to help battle red tide. Lee County will get $2 million dollars as the county hardest hit, Collier will receive $190 thousands, the rest will be split up among Sarasota, Manatee and Martin Counties. Meanwhile, red tide numbers stay high. The bloom now extends over 13 miles from Marco Island up to the South Tampa Bay area. Some experts believe the red tide could stick around until the winter months.
Police have arrested a Lehigh Acres woman and charged her with aggravated battery after she allegedly shot her husband in their home. 45 year old Alexander Kaye was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital Investigators found several guns and ammunition in the home, plus 2 spent shell casings. Peggy Parnell was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
