A gunman opened fire at a video game tournament in Jacksonville yesterday, killing two, wounding eleven and then the gunman shot himself. 24 year old David Katz of Baltimore has been identified as the shooter. Katz was in Jacksonville for the “Madden NFL 19” video game tournament which was being streamed live on the internet.

If you crossed the Matlacha Bridge yesterday, you no doubt were greeted by over 100 people protesting our algae and red tide blooms that have severely affected our area. Among the protesters were members of  ROAR — Rise Up, Organize, Agitate, Resist, who organized the demonstration.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, a former Republican presidential nominee and prisoner of war,  passed  away yesterday following a battle with brain cancer. McCain served two terms in the House and six terms in the U.S. Senate. McCain’s body will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda and the Senator will receive a full dress funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral.
