A Seminole man is arrested after threatening to shoot up the Seminole Casino and Hotel in Immokalee. Leland Thomas, who had been given a lifetime ban from the casino was arrested earlier this week after threatening to shoot up the casino with a machine gun and place a bomb under a police car. The suspect has been booked into the Collier County jail a total of 26 times.
Red tide continues to take it’s toll on marine life. A dead manatee was found on the beach on Sanibel yesterday, bringing the manatee death toll to 115. Meanwhile the state Department of Environmental Protection has provided $1.2 million for Lee County’s work on blue-green algae and red tide. A new pilot program is beginning today in Cape Coral to aid in the algae cleanup.
Fans Flock to Aretha Franklin’s Viewing
Fans from across the country came out by the thousands to get a chance to pay their respects to the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin as the public viewing begins before her funeral on Friday. People came to Detroit’s Charles H. Wright Museum for African American History from as far as Las Vegas and Miami to bow their heads and blow kisses to the Queen. Franklin, who’s placed in a gold-plated casket, is dressed in red from top to bottom. Museum board member Kelly Major Green says the goal of the museum was to create a dignified and respectful environment similar to a church, the place where Aretha began.
