Burt Reynolds Had A Hit Country Song In The 80s
Burt Reynolds was already one of the biggest actors in the 70s and 80s, but he always had a soft spot for Nashville. Reynolds tried his hand at easy-listening country with 1973’s “Ask Me What I Am,” but it failed to chart. However, second time proved to be the charm. Coming off a string of Hollywood successes, the late mustached star scored a Hot 100 hit with his “Let’s Do Something Cheap and Superficial,” for the soundtrack to 1980’s Smokey and the Bandit II. “Superficial” spent five weeks on the chart, peaking at No. 88, and reached No. 51 on the Country Songs chart that year. While his musical career ended there, Reynolds had his acting gig to fall back on. Which other actors tried their hand at music? Are the songs memorable for being good or bad?
