An Ohio man arrested for pulling a gun on a fellow motorist on I-75 in Naples, is a police officer, who’s been disciplined numerous times in his 23 year career and had been fired for a similar incident back in 2006. Joseph Laperna works for the Aurora, Ohio Police Department, and has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of his case. Aurora is a suburb of Cleveland.
A man wanted on murder charges in connection with the death of 78 year old Frances Axley of Naples back in January is in custody in Southwest Florida. 35 year old Thomas Evans, a family friend, was arrested in Georgia back several months ago. He is now in the Collier County Jail facing second degree murder charges.
Spring Break is here, and the Fort Myers Beach Town Council had considered making changes to the town’s noise ordinance, leaving decisions on whether an event was too noisy up to a police officer’s determination. Council has instead decided to make no changes to the ordinance and police will continue to use decibel meter to make those decisions
35 year old Salvador Lem of Bonita Springs has been charged with child neglect after his 6 year old son was found alone walking on Front Street Saturday. Lem eventually returned to his home, allegedly intoxicated, and told police he had gone shopping. DCF has taken custody of the child, and since Lem is an undocumented immigrant, he’ll be turned over to Homeland Security.
