The BB&T branch on Daniels Parkway in South Fort Myers was robbed by a masked man yesterday morning. The man is described as being in his 40’s or 50’s. He was using a cane and did not display a gun during the hold up.  Lee County Deputies are also on the hunt for a man who stole a $40,000 diamond ring from a jewelry store at the Coconut Point Hyatt. He was later seen at the Diamond District in the Coconut Point Mall. Call CrimeStoppers if you have any information on either of these robberies.

37 year old Collier County teacher Joseph Mejia has been arrested for allegedly conducting a sexual relationship with a student. Mejia was a technology instructor at Gulfcoast Charter Academy South in Naples, he’s been terminated.

 

50 year old Stephen Siroka of Fort Myers has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography and tampering with evidence. Additional charges could be forthcoming. His bond is $240,000.

 

Two men robbed a trailer home in Suncoast Estates and stole electronic equipment Monday night. The owner of the trailer was able to stab one of the suspects before he fled. The trailer is located near Case Lane and Heck Drive.

 

Jurors deliberated for about 7 hours before finding John Johnchuck guilty of throwing his 5 year old daughter off the Sunshine Skyway bridge in 2015. He’s facing a life sentence.

Hoda Kotb Adopts Daughter

  • Today show host Hoda Kotb has added to her family.
  • She called into the program Tuesday morning to announce she has adopted another child. Kotb said, “It’s a girl! And her name is Hope.” The full name is Hope Catherine Kotb.
  • Kotb explained the name saying, “You hope, you pray, you dream about things, and we thought about Hope. And we named her middle name Catherine after my best friend Karen, her daughter — I think you guys know that her husband passed a little while ago, and Catherine is so super strong.”

Prosecutors Plan to Seek Up to 10 Months in Jail for Actress Felicity Huffman

  • According to a law enforcement source, Felicity Huffman will spend between four to ten months in jail for her role in the college admissions scandal.
  • The source claims that Huffman’s recent public apology had nothing to do with prosecutors offering a lower plea deal that includes a minimal amount of jail time, $20,000 fine, and a year of supervised release.
  • Prosecutors also won’t seek additional charges other than the conspiracy to commit fraud, but a federal judge will have the final say when Huffman returns for her sentencing hearing on May 21st.

 

Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies Recalled Over ‘Unexpected’ Ingredient

  • Are you a fan of Chewy Chips Ahoy? Well put that cookie down and double-check the package, because the company just announced a recall over an ‘unexpected’ ingredient.
  • Mondelez, the makers of Chips Ahoy, are blaming the recall on an unexpected ‘solidified ingredient’ that can lead to ‘potential adverse health effects’.
  • The easiest way to check is with the best-when-used-by date on the left side of the package – the recalled products are dated 07SEP2019, 08SEP2019, 14SEP2019, or 15SEP2019.  If you have a tainted product, either throw it out or take it back to the store for a refund.

 

Pepsi Considers Space Billboards

  • Pepsi is planning to go where no soda company has gone before…space.
  • The soft drink company has been in talks with a Russian space startup to showcase their logo via low-orbit satellites.
  • The ad would be for their Adrenaline Rush energy drink.
  • An array of micro satellites will project the company logo with images on his website showing how images might appear floating in the sky.

 

Would You Try Peanut Butter Whiskey?

  • If you’re feeling nutty, Screwball has released a peanut butter whiskey nationwide after debuting the whiskey in San Francisco in 2018.
  • The Huffington Post tried the whiskey and reviews were mixed.  One reviewer said it reminded them of peanut butter taffy.  Another who sampled it called it “a big bowl of diabetes.”
