Hurricane Dorian Is Back To Being A Category 2

Hurricane Dorian weakened slightly Thursday morning, becoming a strong Category 2 storm again, according to CBS News.

The National Hurricane Center said Dorian strengthened to a Category 3 Thursday afternoon, but the agency later said that was inaccurate. As of 3 p.m. ET Thursday, the storm's core was about 60 miles south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and 110 miles south-southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina, according to CBS.

The hurricane center said a dangerous storm surge was possible Thursday on the North Carolina and South Carolina coasts.
Some 222,000 homes and businesses were without power in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

CNN reports that Myrtle Beach in South Carolina has declared a civil emergency, and residents of Virginia Beach’s Sandbridge community have been ordered to evacuate ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian.

Meanwhile, the death count in the Bahamas has risen to at least 23 people dead. Rescue and relief efforts there are underway. USA Today reports that 13,000 homes and businesses were destroyed during the storm, but the final tally is likely to be much higher.
