Child Calls Mother’s Vodka “Mommy’s Drink” During Traffic Stop
A woman in Punta Gorda was arrested for a DUI on Saturday after driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
A deputy of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was driving west on East Marion Avenue and a grey SUV was driving west. The deputy had to slam on his brakes and pull over to the side of the road just to avoid a crash with the car.
The deputy pulled over the woman and identified her as 39-year-old Melinda Harrison. She apologized for driving in the wrong direction, and when the officer asked where she was, she simply said, “Venice.”
The deputy noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery and the car smelled like alcohol. She said that she only had one drink.
Her son was in the car with her and she told the officers that he had been with her for hours.
The police found a Svedka bottle under the seat, and when officers pointed the flashlight at it, the son said, “that’s mommy’s drink.”
The child was picked up by Harrison’s sister and is safe.
Harrison was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as child abuse without great bodily harm.
