In a new trailer released over the weekend during Netflix's TUDUM fan event, the singer and actress stars in the thriller The Mother. Directed by New Zealand filmmaker Niki Caro (Whale Rider, Mulan), the film also stars The Handmaid's Tale actor Joseph Fiennes.
Lopez, 53, leads the film as a killer operative who, amid pursuit from dangerous enemies, comes out of hiding to protect the estranged daughter she gave up years ago. The clip begins with the actress living in isolation in a remote, frigid location, where she seemingly spends her days doing pull-ups off the cabin and hunting deer in a snowy forest.
"She needs protection right now," Lopez says, referencing her character's daughter, who is kidnapped midway through the footage. "You saw what was out there. It's going to keep coming. If there's trouble, come find me." What follows is shots of Lopez in pursuit of the kidnappers on foot, via motorbike and snowmobile.

Lopez was last seen in the rom-com Marry Me alongside Owen Wilson. The movie made $22.4M in the US box office and received mild ratings online. The Mother is set for release on Netflix in 2023.
