Governor Ron DeSantis presented his State of the State Address yesterday afternoon calling for lower taxes, safer schools and more effective environmental protections. DeSantis says Florida has repositioned it’s water policy by expediting key projects like the EAA reservoir and raising the Tamiami Trail, establishing a blue-green algae task force to develop policies to fight algae blooms, fight red tide and improve water quality; and by appointing a Chief Science Officer to better harness scientific data and research.
A Cape Coral man is under arrest, accused of using a CVS Photo Lab to process child pornography. William Burkey is facing several charges including possession of obscene material of a minor.
A traffic stop in Cape Coral led to a drug arrest. 25 year old Ashley Lynn Shirley, a passenger in the car was recorded on police dash cam disposing of a pencil case containing methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia. The driver of the car fled. Police are still looking for him.
Charlotte County Deputies also made a drug arrest after helping a motorist with a disabled vehicle. While a deputy was assisting, he smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered various pills and MDMA. Several small baggies also contained cocaine and other drugs. Bernardo Baptist is facing nine counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
