President Trump will be visiting Lake Okeechobee today. The President will take an aerial tour of the Lake and check progress on the Herbert Hoover Dike. Governor DeSantis, Senators Scott and Rubio and other local officials are also  expected to attend.

 

Police are investigating a shooting yesterday morning on Fowler Street in Fort Myers. According to reports an unidentified man was shot in the leg. His injury was non life-threatening

 

A man arrested last week for allegedly inappropriately touching young girls at a Charlotte County pool, is also wanted by the Northport Police. Timothy Rice, reportedly fled to Texas, with the permission of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, when the media coverage became too much. He’ll receive another prowling charge once Northport police catch up with him.

 

The community continues to come together in the wake of the hit and run death of Layla Aiken of Cape Coral, killed at her bus stop earlier this week. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Lee County School Board announced a joint program to provide local students with LED lights to make them more visible to vehicles.

 

 

Disney Bans Smoking, Large Strollers

  • Disney theme parks are making some changes for this summer, the biggest of which is a ban on smoking on park property.
  • In a blog post on their official website, Disney announced it was getting rid of all smoking areas inside most Disney parks in the U.S.
  • Also banned?  Large stroller wagons, with a new size limit of 31″ by 52″ aimed at keeping walkways more clear for guests.
  • Finally, don’t bring a bag of ice with you – Loose bags of ice are now banned, although ice packs are still allowed and complimentary cups of ice and ice water are available throughout the park.

 

Four Robocall Operators Responsible for Billions of Calls

  • You may start getting fewer robocalls now, thanks to the government.  The FTC just shut down four scamming groups that have been charged with making BILLIONS of illegal robocalls.
  • The four groups are now banned from making robocalls and using auto-dialers.  The FTC is also hitting the companies in the wallet with fines ranging from $500,000 to nearly $4 million.
  • More relief from robocalls could be coming soon.  Lawmakers are working on a bill to make robocalling difficult and most phone carriers have begun to offer ways to identify spoof numbers.

 

Woman Sues TGI Fridays for Selling “fake” Potato Skins

 

  • So what happens when you get a bag of TGI Fridays “potato skin” chips and there are no potato skins? Well if you’re anything like Solange Troncoso…than you sue!
  • Troncoso purchased a bag of TGI Fridays “potato skin” chips from her local bodega in the Bronx. After shelling out a $1.99 for the chips she realized they didn’t contain actual potato skins. The chips are made from potato flakes and potato starch.
  • Troncoso has filed a lawsuit against TGI Fridays, in which she notes that the Idaho Potato Commission has associated potato skins with “healthy eating” and thus the presence of potato skins makes the product more valuable to the consumer. TGI Fridays have not commented on the lawsuit.
