63 year old Petruska E. Marquez of Lehigh Acres was killed Sunday morning after a multi-vehicle accident on I-75 in Sarasota County. 26 year old Nicholas Simpson of Northport was apparently under the influence of alcohol when he stopped his car in the middle of the interstate, causing the wreck.  He’s facing several charges including DUI manslaughter.

Collier County deputies arrested Michael Burke Thursday night. Police say he was seen attempting to break into several homes on Barrett Avenue, and relieved himself in someone’s backyard. He was found to be in possession of drugs when police apprehended him.

 

 

Crews will be working on the Jolley Bridge this week replacing lights damaged by Hurricane Irma, and also doing some road resurfacing. Southbound lanes will be closed from Capri Blvd to the bridge beginning at 9am. FHP will assist with traffic.

Tiger Woods Wins Masters

  • Golf fans went crazy after Tiger Wood’s won Sunday’s Masters Tournament; his fifth win and fifteenth major title!  Woods shot a 2-under par 70 for the win.  Tiger’s now one win behind golf legend Sam Snead’s career record number of 82 wins.
  • His Masters win is a major comeback.  Eleven years had passed since he had last won a major.  He’d also become more known for his cheating, public divorce and DUI arrest while his golf game floundered.

Madonna Confirms New Album Madame X

  • Madonna announced via her Instagram that she is releasing a new album called Madame X.
  • She explains that Madame X is an agent which makes her many things; a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a mother, a child, a prisoner, etc
  • This album was inspired by her time living in Portugal.
  • No exact release date was given

 

 

Breastfeeding Mother Ticketed, Nearly Towed

  • A New York mother is fighting a $115 parking ticket she received while breastfeeding her 3-week old daughter.  The mother says she was frantic to feed her crying, hungry child and pulled into a commercial parking zone.  While she was in her van’s backseat, nursing on one side and pumping on the other, an NYPD tow truck pulled up to tow her.  She says she had to honk her van’s horn cause the officer was about to tow her vehicle without even checking for passengers.
  • Once the officer walked up to the vehicle, she told him she was breastfeeding.  He then laid a $115 parking ticket on her van’s window.  She’s fighting the ticket and is asking for help from breastfeeding advocates.

 

Marijuana Industry Preps for 4/20 Holiday

  • 4/20 has gone from a stoner’s holiday to big business!  With more states legalizing recreational pot and April 20th falling on a Saturday this year, cannabis retailers are prepping for huge sales for 2019.
  • Flowhub predicts that the biggest 4/20 sellers this year will be edibles, pre-rolled joints and dried smokable flowers. Forbes says that as pot businesses battle for those bud bucks, stores will have more competition which will drive down price points for those looking to get high on a budget.
