Locally…Congressman Francis Rooney held a pair of town halls yesterday on Marco Island and Fort Myers. The crowd included alumni from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland who called on Rooney to support a ban on assault weapons.
Rooney rejected their belief that banning assault weapons could have prevented last week’s school shooting. While he doesn’t support arming teachers, Rooney did say he would support a bill to give retired law enforcement an opportunity to work as armed guards on school campuses. He also said he favors closing the gun show loophole and he’s in favor of improving mental health services and restricting access to guns to those who are unstable.
An 8 year old Cape Coral girl who had been reported as missing yesterday afternoon has been found safe. Not much information is known about how Juliet Odierna was found, but police say she was recovered in Alabama.
