Wow. That is all I can say about the inaugural Sunny 106.3 Cares 4 Kids Radiothon. The total, 50K raised for kids, families and Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers. We joined forces with other stations in the Beasley Broadcasting Media group in Southwest Florida for a day of raising money to help fund the life saving programs at Golisano.
During our visit, the beds in the hospital were nearly filled to capacity. Some 120,000 kids walked through the doors of the hospital last year. Some with minor injuries, some with life threatening diseases. By the grace of God, most walked out. But not all do.
No matter how lengthy or costly their stay, no child or family is turned away due to ability to pay. This is the only children’s hospital between Miami and Tampa.
The staff is outstanding. Not only are they among the best in their field, but they also have some of the biggest hearts. It can be hard. It can be sad. However, they go out of their way to make the best out of difficult situations for the child and their families.
After meeting many of the patients, former patients and families, there was a common thread. Almost every one of them said they were treated like family. In fact, they felt like the staff became more like friends and family than medical providers. That goes a long way in healing for anyone who is suffering from an illness.
50K Raised For Kids
Thank you to Cape Coral Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for helping to make the event happen. In fact, they are still giving. $25 for every car purchased on Wednesday will be donated to Golisano.
Also, thanks to all of the local businesses who were power hour sponsors who matched donations among other things. They include The Good Feet Store, Gavin’s Ace Hardware, Lake Michigan Credit Union, Extreme Roofing, Pi Local Pizzeria, Absolute Law and Accurate Pavers.
Finally, thank you to the families who gave their time to show up and others who shared their stories on air. But most importantly, thank YOU, Sunny 106.3 listeners. You reached into your pockets and you gave. You gave in small increments and large ones. You gave what you could and from your heart.
We have the best listeners and I for one could not be more humbled as well as proud to part of this Sunny family. Here are a few photos from the day. 50K raised for kids, families and Golisano Children’s Hospital. Bravo.
