Mornings With Gina Birch

We are down to the wire when it comes to purchasing food and beverages for your holiday celebrations. I like to have a variety of wines on the table including those that might seem unlikely. Especially when considering the variety of food and flavors you will likely have. Here are 7 sparkling and alternative wines for Thanksgiving Dinner and Wine Wednesday.

Having a white wine option is essential for Thanksgiving. The ones I list here make great companions with the salt and fat found in a lot of traditional Thanksgiving foods.

Then there are the reds. Their fruit and spices play so well with the herbs and fruits found on a classic Thanksgiving spread. Here are a wide range of red wines to consider.

Finally, don’t forget about Beaujolais Nouveau., an annual tradition in the wine world. It comes from France but just so happens to work well for the American holiday. Here is that info as well as a review of one of the most well-known brands.

About Alternative Wines For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a great time to bring out something different, not your average pinot noir. More like a rosé a made from pinot noir. Rosé  wines are not just for spring. Many of them make superb accompaniments to traditional Thanksgiving foods.

Then are the so-called orange wines. They are white wines with an orange tint that drink more like a dry red at times. Their orange hue comes from the juice having longer contact with grape skins and seeds when being made. They typically have decent tannin structure and are diverse in flavors

Sparkling And Alternative Wines For Thanksgiving Dinner

Sparkling wines should be at every holiday gathering in my opinion. First, they are festive and celebratory. Any time I hear a cork pop I know something good is to come.

The bubbles in sparkling wines are good with salt and the combination of fruit and acid make them good with food, not just for sipping. Some Champagnes are so big and yeasty that they are best with food. The ones here are great for sipping and for dining.

Rosa Regale Red is a festive pick for anyone who likes their wine on the sweet side. It is a sparkling Italian wine that is a gorgeous color. Try with dessert or a spicy dip. One of the things I like about this one is that it also makes fun cocktails. Here is one recipe that uses a glass ornament for an extra festive presentation.
