Thanks to La Ola Surfside for partnering with Sunny 106.3 for the UnWined Wednesday wine tasting event. They provided free wine for the tasting.
The Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers looked beautiful in all of the holiday décor. So did La Ola Surfside Restaurant. They hosted once again for UnWine(d) Wednesday. Last night was the Holiday Edition of UnWined Wednesday with Gina Birch and it was a festive one. The first wine tasting event was in November and the weather that blew in was blustery at best. We were all happy that conditions were better and more people ventured out this month.
La Ola hosts the monthly event, providing small tastes of several wines supplied by Republic National Distribution Company. After tasting, those in attendance have the option to purchase a glass and almost everyone does. Along with food. The restaurant looked quite festive with a Christmas tree and full sized cutout of Will Ferrell as Buddy The Elf. It was a popular prop for photos.
We sampled four wines. The first was Stella Rosa Prosecco that was full of flavors of pear and good with salty appetizers. Next was a rose from Daou in Paso Robles, California. The bottle is gorgeous. The wine is light and refreshing.
Next, the red wines. Also from Paso Robles was the cabernet sauvignon. It was San Simeon and smelled like jammy, cooked red and dark fruits. It made me want BBQ ribs. Finally, we tried a malbec from Bodega Norton in Argentina. This one was perhaps the favorite of the night. It has a little more structure, some herbal and smoky qualities and nice red fruit. Another good wine for meat.
