Media in attendance were given free food and drinks to sample at the reopening of the Beacon Social Drinkery, the renovated Luminary Hotel rooftop bar, in exchange for an unbiased review.

The much anticipated unveiling happened last night. Here is an inside look at the renovated Luminary Hotel rooftop bar downtown Fort Myers. The Beacon Social Drinkery is arguably one of downtown’s most popular spots to mingle. Even better, it has the best sunset view. Beacon is the rooftop bar at The Luminary Hotel & Co. and it is now dressed in black, red and silver with pops of green. It is in celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon.

When Beacon Social initially opened, it was bright, light and airy. It is still airy, but the colors are darker and the vibe is more trendy-chic. The rafters are dark and adorned with bright red paper lanterns. Couches that once sprawled on the deck have been replaced with both high and low tops. It seems to flow better and allow for more people to mingle. There is new lighting and vibrant artwork as well. In addition, a new green wall with the words “Shed a little Light” in neon is perfect for photo-ops. It looks great. The sunset was amazing too.

The Year of the Dragon theme carries over to the seating in the lobby outside of Beacon Social. It’s also chic and comfy. In addition, it is a great space to stretch out and people watch. It is a tab more quiet too, if that is what you are looking for.

The Year of the Dragon theme also carries over to the cocktails and cuisine. They have an Asian flare. The menu full of small bites has been redesigned and it got great reviews from those in attendance last night. New to the line-up include things such as Shrimp and Mango Summer Roll, Steamed Pot Stickers, Pork Belly Bao Bun, Grilled Shrimp Skewers in ginger garlic soy sauce, and lots more. In addition, it has a few of Beacon’s old favorites such as Wagyu Beef Sliders and Fig & Goat cheese Flatbread.

  SWFL radio and television personalities were in attendance for the grand reopening of Beacon Social Drinkery. The event was invite only but today the bar reopens to the public.

• Jade & Juniper

  Jade & Juniper is a new cocktail on the Beacon's menu. It is Suntory Roku Gin, Midori (which adds the color), lime juice and tonic foam. It looks so cool when the sun hits it. I asked for this one to be made with a little less Midori. It was a tad sweet and refreshing.

  Here are two of the new appetizers or small bites on the menu at Beacon Social Drinkery in downtown Fort Myers. The first is Chicken Yakitori Wings which had a great flavor and perfect crunch. Next is the Ahi Tuna which was pretty straight forward. The Wakame had five spice in it for something a little different.
• East Terrace

  One of the outdoor spaces at Beacon. The entire bar has a view of the Caloosahatchee River. You can see the bright red pops of color from the red paper lanterns hanging from the rafters to the bright red table runners on the bar tops. This space used ot have more bulky couches.

• Seat With A View

  There are two outdoor seating spaces at Beacon. This is on the east side facing downtown. There is still a view of the water but it is harder to see the sunset. Bonus, there is more shade and here is where the DJ can be found.

• Pork Belly Bao Bun

  Pork Belly Bao Buns are also new to the menu. These have hoisin cabbage, cilantro and a little heat from nickeled jalapeno. They are a little more sizeable than many bao buns so they are great to share or keep as a meal for yourself. They are good with that new Jade and Juniper gin cocktail.

  Gina, Tara and Lauren enjoying the newly reimaged rooftop bar at the Luminary Hotel in downtown Fort Myers. Last night's event was for media and industry friends. It is now open to the public again.

• Fried Shishito Peppers

  Fried Shishito Peppers are a new addition to the Beacon's Nosh menu. These are dusted with togarashi and a side of lime. They are great for sharing. The color of the food also matches the new color scheme of the bar. Coincidence?

  The entrance to Beacon Social Drinkery is chic and has limited seating. We were given goodie bags last night with Chinese themed swag and beautiful calligraphy art commemorating the Year of the Dragon. There is an express elevator from the lobby to the rooftop bar.
