Mornings With Gina Birch

A couple of weeks ago I previewed a charity event for The Heights Foundation called Salt Water Cowboy. The event was held last night under a tent on the grounds of Marine Max in Fort Myers. Salt water cowboy is a term used to describe those who ride waves rather than horses. They are the people who love all things surrounding water. Things such as boating, fishing, diving and more. Southwest Florida is full of them. While they care about nature, for this event it was all about Salt Water Cowboys helping kids.

This charity event raises much needed funds for the Heights Foundation and it’s many programs. Those programs have changed the landscape of the economically depressed Harlem Heights neighborhood. The primary one being education. The Heights Foundation built and operates a charter school, provides after school and summer programs as well as music programs and tutoring for the kids.

For their families, the foundation provides job training and a host of support services. The idea is to lift the family unit as a whole in hopes of breaking the cycle of poverty. They have made a huge difference in transforming the entire community as well as helping in the massive Hurricane Ian recovery effort. The Harlem Heights community is found on Gladiolus Drive.

The numbers are still being tallied as far as the amount of money raised. However, by the accounts of those in attendance, it was a huge sucess.

Salt water cowboys helping kids in Southwest Florida was a fun evening for a great cause. Here are a few photos. When the party date is set for next year, I’ll let you know. You can put it on your calendar and join the fun. It is a laid back party that attracts a great crowd who love to party for a purpose.
