90s Con is Coming to Tampa: Discover Hidden Superhero Gems from the Past.

Get ready to put on your spandex and grab your cape, because 90s Con is coming to Tampa and we’re taking a trip back to the 90s to explore some of the most obscure superhero TV shows that you probably didn’t even know existed! According to the event’s website, the three-day convention hails the pop culture of the 1990s through celebrity panels, autograph signings and concerts. But before you head to the Tampa Convention Center this September, let us uncover some of the hidden gems that graced our screens in the past.

When we say “obscure,” we’re talking about the shows that only a select few die-hard fans have even heard of. The shows that were canceled after one season or less and left us wondering what could have been. But fear not, because we’ve done the digging for you and uncovered some of the most ridiculous and obscure superhero shows that the 90s had to offer.

From a paraplegic scientist turned superhero to a cowboy bounty hunter with a high-tech gadget, we’ve got it all. Now, we won’t lie – some of these shows are pretty cheesy and over-the-top. But isn’t that part of their charm? Plus, who doesn’t love a good laugh at some cringeworthy special effects and questionable acting?

So, whether you’re attending 90s Con or just feeling nostalgic, sit back, relax, and get ready to discover some hidden superhero gems that you probably never knew existed. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a new favorite show to add to your binge-watching list. Just don’t blame us if you start donning a cape and attempting to fly off your couch – we warned you about the spandex.

  • Night Man

This live-action series was based on a comic book saxophonist that gains the ability to hear evil thoughts after being struck by lightning. It only lasted two seasons, but it had a loyal cult following.

  • The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

Based on the popular graphic novel and movie, “The Crow: Stairway to Heaven” starred Mark Dacascos as the undead avenger. It had a dark, moody vibe and some impressive action scenes.

  • The Phantom 2040

This Animated sci-fi series (1994-96) was based on the classic comic strip. However this was Set in 2040, it follows Kit Walker Jr. as he protects futuristic Metropia from cyber threats, environmental destruction, and greedy corps.

  • M.A.N.T.I.S

This short-lived series starred Carl Lumbly as a paralyzed scientist who develops a high-tech suit that gives him superhuman abilities. It was a unique twist on the superhero genre and had some interesting ideas.

  • Superboy

This live-action series focused on the adventures of a young Clark Kent before he became Superman. It had a low budget and some questionable acting, but it was still fun to see the early days of the Man of Steel. By far my Favorite show as a kid.

  • The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

While not strictly a superhero show, this Western series had some sci-fi elements and starred Bruce Campbell as a bounty hunter with a high-tech gizmo. It was a wild and wacky ride that was ahead of its time.

  • The Flash

While not as obscure as some of the other shows on this list, “The Flash” still doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. This live-action series starred John Wesley Shipp as the Scarlet Speedster and had some impressive special effects for its time.

  • The Tick

Airing from (1994-1997) This animated show was about A dim-witted superhero, the Tick, that fights crime with his loyal sidekick, Arthur. This was one of my go to after school shows.

  • Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad

A group of teenagers fight against a virus in cyberspace that has taken over their school’s computer system. With ridiculous catchphrases and cheesy special effects, this show is guaranteed to leave you wondering why you didn’t have a talking computer buddy to fight off viruses in high school.

  • The Adventures of Hyperman

Meet the alien superhero, Hyperman, who battles villains on Earth with the help of his friend, Studd Puppy. It doesn’t get any more obscure than this folks.
