Today is the last day of school for kids in Lee County. Charlotte and Collier County students got a head start on their summer vacations and are already out. Summer is exciting but it can also be stressful for families that are experiencing food insecurities. The only consistent meals many children get are when they are in school. So what happens when school is out of session for a week or even months? Many students don’t eat. They go hungry. To help, there are organizations offering free summer breakfast and lunch for Lee County students along with others in Southwest Florida children.

With school out for summer break, many Lee County students wont get fed a daily breakfast or lunch. However, there is help. This help is offered to kids under 18 across the state of Florida.
Summer Break Spot is a statewide program that provides a variety of meal programs for kids who need good nutrition while they are out of school for the long summer break. Depending on the location, everything from snacks, to lunch, even dinner in some cases is provided. The food is free. At the time of this story, there are about 80 distribution locations planned for Lee County. Organizers often add more food sites as the summer goes on, and also depending on need.
