Coachella Production Teams Are Now Building Coronavirus Triage Tents
Although many are unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic, the Coachella production staff is staying busy. Since the festival has been postponed this year, the event production companies that usually build stages are now building triage tents and temporary hospitals in Indio, California.
Per NME, Ryan Choura, who owns one of the production firms, says, “We pivoted so fast to being a rapid-response disaster relief team. If I didn’t know how to do Coachella, I couldn’t do this hospital.” He also says, “I saw patients coming in here and saw what they looked like. This is real, and we’ve got to move.”
A representative from Gallagher Staging, another production firm, adds, “We’re an industry that moves faster than anyone. We’ll install an entire city on a blank slate. We have everything available: Wi-Fi, radios, generators, lighting, restrooms and wash stations.” He lastly adds, “We can build a small city in a day or two, and that’s a need right now.”
Also, for anyone missing Coachella, there is a documentary coming out April 10 that looks back at the last 20 years of the festival. The documentary will premiere on YouTube. Watch the trailer below.
