The Taylor Swift Florida Song “Is One Hell of a Drug”
The wait is over, the new album from Taylor Swift ‘The Tortured Poets Department” is out and so far, we’re all loving it. Especially the Taylor Swift Florida song, because it’s about us.
Back in February we learned that Taylor’s new album would have a song called Florida!!! I even wrote “Taylor Swift ‘Florida’ Song: 3 Theories On What It Could Be About.” And really, now that I’ve heard the song, I’m not sure any of those theories were right.
The Taylor Swift Florida Song: Let’s break down some of these lyrics.
You can beat the heat if you beat the charges too
That almost sounds like the old Florida adage of “come on vacation, leave on probation.” She did come to Tampa in mid April of last year which was hitting right at the end of Spring Break. Perhaps she caught a bit of that vibe and it made it into the song.
My friends all smell like weed or little babies.
Again, that first part just feels like Spring Break in Florida. For the second part, I googled “what does a little baby smell like” and got an interesting response of “the scent of a baby stimulates the dopamine pathways in the brain associated with rewards, akin to the response triggered by delightful food smells or fulfilling cravings.” So, take that however you want.
Little did you know your home’s really only A town you’re just a guest in
That one’s pretty deep. Living in Florida does feel temporary, right? If you were born here you’ve probably thought of moving away. If you came to Florida from somewhere else, you’ve considered moving back. That line hits.
The hurricane was my name when it came I got drunk and I dared it to wash me away
Pretty sure she’s talking about hurricane parties. But here in Fort Myers, that lyric really hits close to home. She goes on to say “Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine.” Hurricanes take a long time to pass. You should always bring 2 bottles.
In my mind, they sink into the swamp
She’s talking about ditching bodies in the swamp. She even says “and your cheating husband disappeared Well, no one asks any questions here. ”
Someone from Florida had to help her write that lyric, because that’s our running joke. If you’re driving along a back road, especially near the Everglades, someone will also say “that’s a good place to get rid of a body.” You know we do. It’s dark, but it’s something we always say. The Taylor Swift Florida song is a lot more accurate than we imagined.
I’m not saying she had someone in mind when she sang that. But, you know…..
Florida Is one hell of a drug
I need to forget, so take me to Florida I’ve got some regrets, I’ll bury them in Florida.
That’s again, incredibly accurate. A lot of people have moved here ‘escaping’ from whatever they left behind. We’ve always been the destination for someone looking to make a “big change” in their life. In Taylor’s case, she just had a very public breakup of a long term relationship. So that’s most likely a reference to Joe.
Florida, mixed with tequila, is a great way to forget. This Taylor Swift Florida song hits home.
So for all the Swifties trying to figure out which ex-boyfriend Florida!!! is about, I say, it doesn’t really matter. The Taylor Swift Florida song is just a really good song. And it really sums us up pretty well.
Here is what was happening in Tampa at the time just before that show. Perhaps this is more clues as to the lyrics in the Taylor Swift Florida song.
