Sunny 106.3 and Achieva Credit Union teamed up over the week to offer free pet adoptions at Gulf Coast Humane Society in Fort Myers. And the results are fantastic. On Saturday 20 dogs and cats found new homes. There were so many smiles from new pet owners. The place was packed, the dogs were barking, the cats were playing.
Here are some of the cute names of the animals that were adopted: Surprise, Scooby Doo, Cheerio and Gumbo.
We may have cleared a good number of animals Saturday, however, there are so many more that need homes. The shelter is still full of dogs and cats. All shapes, sizes, weights, breeds, and ages. Humane Society volunteers have a particular love for their senior animals. There are all kinds of reasons why older animals make great pets.
More about the free pet adoptions
Thanks to Achieva Credit Union for helping us pay for the adoptions. Also big shout out to the Good Feet Store for supporting the event. We could not have done it without you. Not only is it important for us to get these animals out of the kennels and into a forever home, clearing the space is needed for a bigger reason. It is time, past time, for the Humane Society to renovate. The kennels have not been remodeled and fixed up for several decades. Repairs and upgrades can’t be done while the space is occupied.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by. Several of you didn’t come to adopt, but to donate food, toys, blankets and other supplies. Thank yo so much. If you came looking to adopt but did not find an animal, please go back this week. The shelter, unfortunately, is always getting new tenants. You can also look online to see the animals currently there.
