Mornings With Gina Birch

Every month a four-legged friend from the Gulf Coast Humane Society (GCHS) stops by the Sunny 106.3 studio to hang out with me. Well, it’s more than hanging out. The mission is to help find the furry friend a forever family. Meet Ben, a sweet beagle that needs a home. GCHS Executive Director Gary Willoughby showed up with this adorable dog who he says has become the darling of the shelter of late.

About Ben

Ben is a five-year-old Beagle mix. He is a few years older but he still has a lot of energy and likes to go on walks. He has that typical beagle howl so if you live in an apartment with thin walls and there are other dogs nearby, it might get a little loud for your neighbors. However, Ben does fit the size requirement for most deed restricted communities. He weighs in at about 24 pounds. Ben is a lap dog, super cuddly.

The dog has been an animal ambassador for the shelter, going on visits to senior centers and they love him. He’s only been at the shelter for about two weeks. I can’t imagine a dog like this one will stay around much longer. At least I hope not. He qualifies as another “Fabulous Find” today.

In other animal news, we can’t forget about the felines at the shelter. The humane society is having a “Kitten Shower” at The Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers Saturday (May 13) from 11 to 3. Stop by and see some cute cats. In addition, find out about being a foster family for them. Sometimes there are more than 1000 kittens at the shelter that need care until they are able to survive on their own. Perhaps you don’t want a fulltime pet but would love to help out for a few weeks or months. Fostering might be for you.

In the meantime, just look at this sweet beagle and help find Ben a home.
