Mornings With Gina Birch

Weekdays 6am - 10am

Food is art and there is nothing quite like discovering it when you travel. Even better when it is in your own back yard. I love looking at foodie videos on social media. So, today it’s all about outstanding foodie finds for TikTok Tuesday.

Today you’ll see some videos that are guaranteed to make you hungry. Others will leave you in awe of the talents of chefs around the country. They may even inspire you. Inspire you to buy a plane ticket to fly to these cities with the sole purpose of dining. Several of these are THAT good. In addition, I’ve included a video from a Miami restaurant that looks super cool. It’s an easy drive for a weekend getaway.

orange cake

This delicious dessert comes from Naples Coastal Kitchen. It was a foodie favorite at the time.

I take lots of photos of food. I also take videos of food and cocktails. I’m sure I annoy friends from time to time when we are dining out. But in my defense, I also write about food for a number of outlets, both locally and nationally.

So, it really is work.

Speaking of work. When it comes to tracking down foodie videos, I’ve done that work for you. You don’t have to be a subscriber to TikTok to watch, or to drool over these videos. However, if you are on the social media platform, follow me here.

Check out these outstanding foodie finds for TikTok Tuesday

  • THIS is how you do fried rice

The first video comes from my trip earlier this year to San Francisco. I’ll never look at fried rice the same again. My mouth still waters just thinking about it.

  • Yes Please

This is from a food journalist friend of mine who specializes in Asian cuisine and in particular restaurants in Houston.

  • Foodie Splurge

This would be a dining destination. Meaning the trip to New York might be just for this. I mean you travel there to see a Broadway Show, why not to eat at a specific restaurant. Wow this food.

  • Foodie Madness

This one is in Dubai. I was in the city last year, sure wish I would’ve known about this place. How crazy does this look?

  • Pumpkin Spice Foodie Finds

Since it’s all about food today, check out these videos if you like pumpkin spice. Some of the recipes sound fabulous!

Pumpkin Spice Videos For TikTok Tuesday

You’ve like tasted lot of it by now, so lets check out some pumpkin spice videos for TikTok Tuesday today. It’s that time of the year when people go wild for the seasonal flavor.

I question, is it REALLY that good? Or perhaps it’s just the fact that the window to enjoy the flavor is a brief one? I would suspect it’s a little of both. I have a confession to make. Please don’t judge me. However, I’m not wild about pumpkin spice.

I like how it smells. The individual components are nice. But that being said, I don’t want to drink those flavors. I’ll reserve them for desserts like muffins and of course pumpkin pie. Dairy Queen as a new pumpkin spice Blizzard. I could probably have a few bites of that. On the savory side, perhaps some pumpkin ravioli would do the trick.

Today, it’s all about pumpkin spice videos for TikTok Tuesday. Here are the top five videos that crossed my social media feed this week. You don’t have to subscribe to TikTok to enjoy the videos. I’ve already gone down the rabbit hole for all of us. Just click play, sit back and have fun. But if you are on the site, follow me here.

    • Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Sandwiches

Oh my! I can get behind this one. What a great dessert for a holiday dinner party too.

    • Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale

And finally, this last video is mine. I sampled this seasonal nitro brew from Left Hand last week. It’s widely available now.

    • BONUS, Pumpkin spice LOL

I know I said top five videos, but this one…I just could not resist. If you need a good laugh today. Here it is.

    • Here's more on that Left Hand Ale

Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale Is Here

If you like pumpkin spice and if you like ale and coffee, you will love this fabulous find. Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale is here and ready for some pop topping. It comes from Left Hand Brewing Co which is one of the country’s leading nitro breweries. It’s located in Colorado.

According to the brew masters, pumpkin spice fans have been requesting the company jump on the seasonal bandwagon for years. So for the fist time, Left Hand has released a pumpkin ale with spices and coffee. I mean everyone else is doing it, from Starbucks to Dairy Queen with their new Blizzard.

What is in the pumpkin spice latte ale

First of all, the nitro lends itself to the creamy, rich mouthfeel associated with a latte. We are off to a good start. Next on the to do list came the development of the much beloved seasonal spice. One that would mix well with the nitro and create that warm, comforting flavor that so many people love. The blend includes cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice. Coffee is the next big element, a premium blend from Boulder-based Ozo Coffee. No artificial coffee flavors, but the real stuff  for a true latte taste.

On another seasonal note, Left Hand Brewing Co has also released an Oktoberfest Märzen Lager. I’ll give you the scoop on that one later.

In full disclosure, I’m not a huge pumpkin spice fan. Don’t judge. I DO love baking spices. mostly when they are in baked good. Oh, and also enjoy those notes when they occasionally surface in wine.

OK. Let’s get started with this pumpkin spice latte ale tasting.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale is here and it’s my latest fabulous find.

      • What kind of glass do you use?

glassesI mean seriously. What kind of glass is best. It’s a latte. But wait, it’s still an ale. And yes your glassware makes a difference. The press release suggests using a goblet.

      • Frosty mug it is

        Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale

        Pumpkin Spice Latte Ale

With no goblet close by, the frosty mug wines by default. That nitro creates a fun fizzy sound when you pop the top.

So how is it? Pumpkin Spice fans will be in heaven. It has a creamy mouthfeel, but not over the top.  The ale gives a slightly bitter edge. The notes of coffee are prevalent throughout, mostly in the middle and finish.

If these are the things you like, make sure you grab some cans before they disappear.

      • Don't forget about this fabulous find for anyone with food allergies

Fabulous Find For Those With Food Allergies

I write a lot about food and wine. Today, it’s a Fabulous Find for those with food allergies.

When I write about food, it’s not just about restaurants and such. I’m constantly looking for new and unique food products. There are a number of people in my circle who have food allergies and sensitivities. There are others who choose to eat a certain way because it makes them feel better. Or they have certain convictions when it comes to the use of animal products. I respect that. But it sometimes becomes a challenge when cooking or hosting an event to make sure I have something for everyone.

        Gangster Sugar Cookies

Gangster Sugar Cookies are gluten free, dairy free, nut free and still taste good

Over the years I’ve tried a lot of foods that are made without “this” and free of “that.” Some are good, some are downright horrible. You just never know. So when the folks at Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. sent me a box of goods to sample I approached with caution. I love the packaging, I love the story. Now lets see if I love the food.

Eat G.A.N.S.T.E.R. is a brand that specializes in treats that are gluten free, nut free, lactose free, free of all kinds of things that trigger allergies in many people.

I started with the sugar cookies and they were a big hit at a brunch I recently hosted. When I told people they were free of most of things they typically eat in cookies (nuts, eggs, butter) my friends were shocked. These were super easy to make and with very few ingredients.

        • Eat Gangster Sugar Cookies

Sugar CookiesThese were a big hit.

        • Eat Gangster Banana Bread

Eat Gangster lineupI tried it but mine did not turn out well. The recipe calls for 1 1/2 ripe bananas. I was half a banana short, story of my life. It made a big difference. The mix was dry. Make sure you follow the directions on these for best results.

        • Eat Gangster Pancake and Waffle Mix

Pancake MixSo, I still have this one. I wanted to try it but just didn’t get around to it last weekend. These will for sure be part of this weekend’s Sunday Funday activities.

        • Fabulous Find For Rum Lovers

While we are on the subject of fabulous finds, these are not your average booze cruise rums.

Yum Yum It's All About Rum For National Rum Day

Yum Yum it’s all about rum for National Rum Day. The delicious spirit distilled from sugar cane and molasses is a tropical favorite.

According to the folks at Pantry & Larder, Americans drink enough rum every year to fill 88 Olympic-sized swimming pools. And while you might think Floridians consume the most rum, they say the largest consumption comes from the tiny state of New Hampshire.

          Celebrity Status

Rum is so popular that even music superstars are getting in on the action with their own brands. Take for instance Bruno Mars and SelvaRey. Not only does rocker Sammy Hagar have his own line of rum cocktails,  he also has a cookbook…well a cocktail book. As you can guess, music and entertaining is a bog part of the book.

The cocktail pictured above comes from Koloa Rum. Here is the recipe.
          Strawberry Garden
          Yields: 6 cocktails

          • 8-10 oz Koloa Kauai White Rum
          • 15 sliced strawberries
          • 5 sage leaves
          • 1 sliced cucumber
          • 3.5 oz triple sec
          • 18-20 oz fresh lemonade
          • Soda or carbonated beverage (optional)

Muddle ½ portion of cucumber and strawberry with Koloa Kauai White Rum and 2 sage leaves. Strain into a pitcher, add lemonade, triple sec and remaining slices of strawberry, cucumber and whole sage leaves. Fill with ice, garnish with strawberry, cucumber and sage leaves.

If you like Pina Colada’s, but don’t like all the calories check out this lo-cal recipe. For some higher end selections and how to properly sip them, check my guide here.

Yesterday I unboxed a box of goodies from Drakes Organic. I sampled some, the rest I’m saving for today and will update the post this afternoon, after a cocktail or two. Yum Yum it’s all about rum for National Rum Day.

          • Drakes Organic

This is what was in the box.

I will say that the Mojito Boxtail was pretty darn good. Just add some fresh mint and ice. No muddling or mess.

          • Wicked Dolphin

We can’t talk about National Rum Day without giving a shoutout to Wicked Dolphin. The Cape Coral distiller has been a pioneer in the state when it comes to changing laws that allow for tasting rooms and retail shops under the same roof.

If you have not toured the distillery, make plans to do so.

            Man does this look refreshing.

          • Sammy's Beach Bar Cocktail

Sammy HagarThe ready to drink cocktail market is booming right now. Seems everyone is getting n the game including rock legend Sammy Hagar. He just released a line of sparkling rum cocktails.

Each can has a QR code on it that reveals a special video message from Hagar.

I have not tried them yet so cannot vouch for them. Keep an eye out for the Tangerine Dream, Pineapple Splash, Island Pop and Cherry Kola Chill. Let me know what you think after you pop the top on one.
