Beyoncé Portrait To Be Displayed At Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery
A portrait of megastar Beyoncé that was shot by photographer Tyler Mitchell will be on display at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery indefinitely, reports CNN.
The history-making photograph is one of several that Mitchell took of the “I Been On” singer for Vogue‘s September issue, last year.
The young photographer became the first African American to shoot a cover for the publication. He also became one of the youngest photographers to have shot a cover of Vogue at 23-years-old.

The Smithsonian Institution holds the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, which confirmed that the addition of the image gained approval and is underway.
However, it’s currently unclear exactly when the photograph will be exhibited to the public.
“When I first started, 21 years ago, I was told that it was hard for me to get onto covers of magazines because black people did not sell,” Beyoncé wrote in the extended captions that accompanied the photographs in the feature.
“Clearly that has been proven a myth. Not only is an African American on the cover of the most important month for Vogue, this is the first ever Vogue cover shot by an African American photographer.”
Mitchell said, “You’d imagine someone as famous as Beyoncé to be protective of her image, but she was really an open book — and that’s exactly what you want as a photographer,” Mitchell commented around the time that the issue was released.
