Florida Minimum Wage Goes Up On September 30th

The Florida minimum wage is going up again. It’s all because of a constitutional amendment. That amendment was voter approved and will raise the minimum wage in Florida to $11 an hour on September 30.
Not only is the minimum wage going up this year, but it will go up $1 every September 30th until 2026 where it will reach $15 an hour. Florida’s minimum wage is much higher than the federal minimum wage. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Florida doesn’t have the highest minimum wage, however, as California is moving to $15 an hour starting on New Year’s Day. Connecticut and Massachusetts will also be at $15 in 2023. Those states generally tax their citizens more, so it’s not a clean comparison.
Some companies have set their minimum wage way above $15. Just recently, Hard Rock International announced that the starting salary will be $18 to $21 an hour. They are also spending over $100 million to give raises to 10,000 non-tipped workers. Bank of America has a starting wage of $20 an hour. Companies such as Target and Lowe’s have repeatedly bonused their hourly employees over the past two years.
If you’re looking for a job, make sure you take all these things into account. Bonuses, benefits, and the company’s history of giving raises is an important thing to look at. If you have a marketable skill, you don’t need to accept the first offer.
Here’s some places that generally pay more than Florida Minimum Wage:
