Lani Kai Reopens on Fort Myers Beach After Hurricane Ian
Fort Myers Beach's beloved Lani Kai hotel welcomed back guests Wednesday for the first time since Hurricane Ian hit in 2022. They're taking it slow, opening up one floor at a time as people start coming back.
Crews started with the essential repairs — putting in new electrical wiring, fixing the plumbing, and replacing drywall and ceilings. During the renovations, Marketing Director Melissa Schneider said they added some new features.
“The Lani Kai has been so well known for the old Florida icon and elevated it into an even more amazing place that I know people who have stayed with us for generations are just going to love it as they have in the past,” said Schneider.
Guest Sarah Fisher smiled as she saw activity returning to the beach area. This beachfront fixture joins other businesses that have bounced back after the storm.
It's a hopeful sign for Fort Myers Beach's recovery. While construction continues around town, businesses keep reopening, helping the area feel more like its old self.
