Britney Spears’ Father Reportedly Applies to Expand Conservatorship
Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has filed to expand his conservatorship over his daughter’s affairs, according to a new report from Entertainment Tonight.
Jamie has been in control of his daughter’s affairs since 2008 and now he wants to expand the control beyond the state of California to Hawaii, Florida and the singer’s home state of Louisiana.
“Mr. Spears, in his capacity as Conservator of the Person and Estate, intends to register the Orders appointing Mr. Spears as a Conservator of the Person and Estate, as well as his Letters of Conservatorship, with states outside of California, in accordance with each of the states’ required procedures, including without limitation at this time, the following: Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii,” court documents obtained by ET say.
A few weeks ago, Spears appealed to a judge to expand control of her own affairs and grant a number of unnamed freedoms. ET obtained court documents that showed a judge agreed to review the terms of her conservatorship but ultimately denied Britney’s requests.
Now, as Britney “seems to be more focused on having the ability to make her own decisions.” her father is looking to have more control.
One point of contention seems to be Britney’s medication dosages, which, according to multiple reports, has been something of debate for the singer and her family.
Spears completed treatment for her mental health earlier this year amid health struggles for her father. The family has since filed a restraining order against her former manager Sam Lutfi, whom Spears claims has been spreading lies that she was held against her will.
Spears’ current manager, Larry Rudolph, ignited a firestorm last week over claims that Britney may never perform again. Spears, however, has been posting videos of herself dancing on social media and seemingly keeping herself ready to hit the stage at any moment.
