Harvey Weinstein Fears ‘Page Six’ Will Ruin His Chances at a Fair Trial
Harvey Weinstein and his lawyer have filed an unusual motion regarding his sexual assault case.
According to the New York Times, the movie mogul wants his trial moved out of the city of New York because of the intense media scrutiny he has faced. “Among the arguments Mr. Weinstein’s legal team made in a court document filed on Friday was that Mr. Weinstein’s name was mentioned online by Page Six, The New York Post’s irreverent gossip column, more than 11,000 times.”
Weinstein’s lawyer adds, “New York City is the least-likely place on earth where Mr. Weinstein could receive a fair trial.”
Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer also describes NYC as “ground zero” for all the press coverage and social media hysteria.”It would be impossible for Mr. Weinstein to obtain a fair and impartial jury that could come to court every day past newsstands, and the throngs of activists, celebrities and journalists.”
Weinsteins has been indicted on charges including predatory sexual assault, criminal sexual acts, and rape.
His trial is set to begin September 9.
