Johnny Depp Is Taking His Comeback Seriously With Less Partying
Johnny Depp’s newest film, Jeanne du Barry, opened up the Cannes Film Festival. This marks the actor’s first film since the defamation trial involving his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Though it seems the actor has made his “comeback” to movies, he told CBS that he has “no further need for Hollywood.”
Supporters of Heard protested Depp’s appearance at the film festival via social media with the CannesYouNot hashtag. The 59-year-old actor, however, did not appear to be concerned with the criticism or his perception within the industry. “I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about Hollywood,” Depp said. “It’s a strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves, but they can’t. They must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best.”

Depp made it clear that he is focused on promoting his new movie and the acting process and won’t be going anywhere. “I’ve had about 17 comebacks apparently,” Depp said. “I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback’ because I didn’t go anywhere. As a matter of fact, I live about 45 minutes away.”
The New and Improved Johnny
Sources told gossip website TMZ that Depp is steering clear of his old behaviors. Years ago, the actor would have attended afterparties and stayed up late. They told the gossip site that after the opening premiere last week, the Pirates of the Caribbean star went back to his room early to get enough rest for the next day’s interviews. According to the sources, Johnny has experienced “an evolution in terms of prioritizing his health and rest” while picking things up with his craft.
Another source told People that Depp was living a “destructive life and people close to him were concerned. Everyone is excited about how he turned things around. He is much happier too.” After Cannes, Depp flew to London to do Jeff Beck’s tribute show with Eric Clapton and several other guitar greats. Next, he’s hitting the road with his band Hollywood Vampires, which also features Joe Perry of Aerosmith and Alice Cooper. From there, he’ll go right into directing a new film called Modi, starring Al Pacino. As for Heard, 37, she moved to Spain, where she has maintained a low-key presence with her child.
