WWE Declared an ‘Essential Business’ by Florida Officials
WWE resumed live programming last night (April 13) during their flagship program Monday Night Raw after being declared an “essential business” by officials in the State of Florida.
Per ESPN and CNN, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings made the decision of declaring WWE as an “essential business” with assistance from the office of Gov. Ron DeSantis despite Florida’s current “Safer at Home” order, which is currently set to run through to April 30.
A new order from Gov. DeSantis states, “Employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience – including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any others necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production – only if the location is closed to the general public.” This means live production of WWE programing can continue at both their Performance Center in Orlando and at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla.
In a statement on the new order, WWE said, “We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times. We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance.”
The order from Gov. DeSantis could potentially open the possibility of more sporting events resuming activity as long as the location is closed to the general public.
