Lee County and Charlotte County Schools: Remain Closed on Wednesday, August 30th

In an announcement pertaining to current Tropical Storm Idalia, Charlotte County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30,which includes the cancellation of all student activities. Further announcements will be communicated via the phone system and will also be placed on the district website.
Lee County has issued a cancelation for tomorrow, as well.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the forecast winds for our area, we are canceling school, all activities and closing all District offices on Tuesday, August 29th.
We will provide an update about our plans for August 30th by 1:00pm tomorrow.
There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge inundation from #Idalia along portions of the Florida Gulf Coast where a Storm Surge Warning is in effect, including Tampa Bay & the Big Bend. Residents in these areas should follow advice from local officials. Additionally, Hurricane & Tropical Storm warnings for #Idalia have been issued for portions of Florida.

Although the cone shows Southwest Florida is currently out of the ‘danger zone’, let’s not forget about Ian. Some of the initial projected cones for Ian were also showing a Northern trek. And then it changed. Additionally, Category 4 Hurricane Franklin is off the east coast of Florida. Although Franklin is not a direct threat to Florida, it’s certainly helping to destabilize our weather here in Southwest Florida. I’m writing this at 1pm and there’s some heavily rumbling thunder just outside my office. Florida is in between 2 storms.
Charlotte County Schools ands Lee County Schools cancelling classes is a smart, precautionary move.
