Drew Barrymore Thanks Taylor Swift for Inspiration to Start Dating Again
“Swelce” is inspiring even celebrities to get back into the dating game. Taylor Swift’s budding relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has inspired Drew Barrymore to start dating again after seven years of being single. Barrymore, 48, has even previously admitted that she chose to abstain from sex since her split from her ex-husband of four years, Will Kopelman. However, Swift’s relatability factor when it comes to dating Kelce has inspired the Charlie’s Angels star to put herself back out there.
On her talk show Monday (October 23), Barrymore discusses with guest Gwyneth Paltrow her impression of Swelce. “Happily seeing her on that first date, out there in the box with his family… I really had a very big Oprah ‘aha’ moment,” the host said. “There was something so normal about it.” As we’ve reported on numerous occasions, Swift has attended many of Kelce’s games, hanging out with his friends and family.

Barrymore noted that while Swift, 33, is “everything but normal,” their date night seemed simple. To break it down plainly, the actress described it like: “‘I’m a female. I’m going to go out on a date with a male. I’m not going to overthink this. I’m not going to play the dark horse and be secretive and weird about it.’ It was like she just went on a date, and it made me think I could just go out on a date.”
The talk show host also revealed that Swift’s love life led her to ask a guy she has been seeing on and off for the last three-and-a-half years to a wedding as her date. For the wedding, which Barrymore says is next weekend, he was shocked to be asked to be her date after this long. She told the Goop founder, “Something about Taylor Swift dating like a normal person” has made her cast aside her overthinking and just go on a date. As for what she is looking for in prospective dates, Barrymore lists a sense of humor as her “greatest aphrodisiac” in addition to being smart.
In 2022, Barrymore admitted that she had chosen to abstain from sex following her split from Kopelman in 2016. The former couple was married for four years and share two daughters, Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9. Her first marriage was at 20 years old to Jeremy Thomas, who was 31. They split after 19 days together and finalized their divorce one year after their marriage in 1995. Then, in 2001, Barrymore married comedian Tom Green, but he filed for divorce five months later.
