A Carnival Cruise Ship With A Roller Coaster Named Bolt Sailed From Port Canaveral
Mardi Gras, Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and biggest vessel sailed out of Florida’s Port Canaveral on July 31st , The ship is the first-ever cruise ship to set sail with an onboard roller coaster, Bolt. According to a press release from Carnival, “BOLT is an all-electric roller coaster encompassing an elevated track across Mardi Gras upper decks with 800 feet of exhilarating twists, drops and turns, including hairpin turn around the ship’s iconic funnel. Riders can achieve speeds of up to 40 miles per hour as they enjoy views to the sea 187 feet below.”
It looks like fun, check out the video.
Reviews on the roller coaster have been positive, and like an “excursion” there is an extra fee. In this case it’s $15 per person. Which isn’t bad considering you’re on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The extra charge isn’t much and is likely helping keep the lines down. If it was free you’d probably have some people just riding it over and over again. So how long is the ride?
It’s 800 feet of track around the ship, and according to The Points Guy, at full speed of 40 mph that would only take you 20 seconds. Since the driver of the motorcycle-like roller coaster car has a throttle, you can go slower if you wish and enjoy the view.
If you’re ready to get back on a cruise ship and are ready to do more than just sightsee, Here’s the booking info for Mardi Gras. Rates start at $479 a person. Keep in mind, this ship sails the Caribbean, and there’s currently two storms out there right now. Eek.
